QUALIFI Level 5 Diploma in Early Learning and Childcare
Overview
The purpose of the Diploma is to provide recognition for those who wish to develop their own abilities in teaching and assessing learners competently in a regulated environment. It is envisaged that all Qualifi centres will provide learners to further their knowledge of assessing to provide consistent, standardised assessment reports and appropriate feedback to learners.
The qualification will enable Learners to become independent, self-directed learners with tools and motivation to continue learning, developing and reflecting on practice throughout their careers.
Learners who successfully complete this qualification will take an analytical and practical approach to all aspects of planning, delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning. Whilst doing this, candidates will embed theories and principles in Early learning and Childcare and demonstrate them in their practice.
Entry requirements
These qualifications are designed for learners who are typically aged 16 and above.
The entry profile for learners is likely to include at least one of the following:
- Relevant Level 4 Diploma qualification or equivalent qualification
Qualification structure
- The QUALIFI Level 5 Diploma in Early Learning and Childcare qualification consists of 4 mandatory units, 6 elective units, total 120 credits, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and the recommended Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification is a minimum of 600 hours.

- Child development and communication skills in early years
Optional
- Managing children’s holistic development in early years
- Developing children’s literacy skills
- Developing children’s mathematical skills
- Safeguarding in early years
- Health and safety in early years
- Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) in early years
Duration and delivery
- The qualification is designed to be delivered over two academic years for full-time study but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time. The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials.
Progressions
- Successful completion of the QUALIFI Level 5 Diploma in Early Learning and Childcare qualification provides learners the opportunity for a wide range of academic progressions.
- The Level 5 Diploma in Early Learning and Childcare has been developed with career progression and professional recognition in mind. As this qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation), learners are eligible to gain direct entry into Year 3 of a three-year UK Bachelor’s degree programme.
